(Opening-)Classifications are used to automatically group games. The most known classifications schemes are the ones from the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings (ECO) and from New In Chess (NIC). Both files, that are based on the classifications schemes of both systems, can be found by default in the document folder of BBase-Chess. Additionally, the most up-to-date files of these schemes can be downloaded from the skywind-server. Of course, also self-made classifications schemes can be used.

After the import of the classifications files, all existing and future games will be automatically classified. The classification process may take a while depending on the size of the database.

Games can be filtered by classification codes. Furthermore, performance results of players with respect to the classification codes of their games can be analyzed.

The classification schemes cannot be modified after the import. An overview about the classifications, their codes and the corresponding moves are of course available (see adjacent example).
